准备好了吗?

A half-day tour of the Skaftafell Nature Reserve to explore the mysterious glacier on foot and learn about its nature and geology.

The meeting point is at the Skaftafell Visitor Centre, where your guide will give you a safety briefing and provide you with all the equipment you need for the hike, including helmets, crampons, harnesses and ice axes. You will then take a bus to the edge of the glacier and hike to the glacier. Your guide will show you the correct posture for walking on the glacier and teach you how to tie your crampons. Once you’ve put on all your gear, you’re ready to embark on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

Falljökull is a tongue of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. Its name means “sliding glacier”, which means that the glacier seems to be continuously sliding down the mountain. The landscape here is unique in the world, and you can see breathtaking scenery such as ice folds, ice mortars, and even natural ice sculptures. The further you go inside, the more beautiful the view becomes. In the past few years, it has been the location of many movies and TV series. Your guide will also explain how glaciers form, the effects of global warming, and more.

This is a difficult hike, but you will also have the opportunity to learn more about glacier trekking techniques. At the end of the 5-hour tour, you will return to the Skaftafell Visitor Centre with everything you have learned.

常见问题

我应该在旅游中穿什么?

The weather in Iceland is very unpredictable. Winter travel: Wear warm clothes inside, waterproof jackets and hoodies outside, hiking boots with hard soles and ankle support are recommended, hats and gloves are recommended. Summer travel: A light raincoat or hoodie. Icelanders often say: “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes”. Jeans are not recommended for travel as they can become heavy, cold and uncomfortable when wet.

Do you need hiking boots?

Hiking boots are recommended when hiking on the glacier. Hiking shoes need to be hard soles and provide support and protection for the ankles. Hiking shoes are available at Skaftafell or Solheimajokull if you do not have them. Hiking boots can be selected at the time of booking, or paid on-site by cash or credit card. The price is ISK 1,500 per pair. The cost of renting shoes is already included in the ice climbing tour.

How difficult is the glacier hike?

There is one glacier hike each on Skaftafell and Solheimajokull. Both itineraries are easy to moderate. Safe for those in good health. Go for a glacier hike if you can walk on uneven surfaces for about an hour. Longer itineraries, such as the 5-hour glacier hike, are challenging and require more stamina. We provide all necessary safety equipment and professional glacier guides. If you have any questions about our glacier tour, you can send an email to ask.

Can pregnant women participate in glacier hikes?

Please judge according to your personal situation. Pregnant women can participate in the tour, but it is recommended to read the description of the activity carefully before participating to judge their own situation. If you have any questions you can contact our service team.

What if it rains?

It is rainy in Iceland, but it generally does not affect the travel itinerary. You need to choose suitable clothes and wear waterproof outerwear. Safety is our number one consideration. In extreme weather, we will cancel the tour and reschedule it for you. In these cases, you can get a full refund.
